For example, A Chorus Line has signature dance choreography like the opening and the finale' (at most Chorus Line audition, its a must to know the original choreography)

So does this means that it will always stay the same?
The choreographer cannot take credit for choreography
that was created from someone else.
Can it be changed? or is it copyrighted and a must for the production?

If it is a revival, usually the choreographer will say the choreography was inspired by the original. Like for instance, the choreography in the Sweet Charity Revivial, was inspired by the original Fosse steps, but is totally different.

Usually though, either way, the choreographer will get the credit, because they are doing their job, which is to teach a dance.

Yes, like Fosse - didn't Ann Reinking choreograph Fosse's choreography for Fosse?

And 42nd street Revival, they used Gower Champions original choreography (which was credited, as was the guy who taught it to the cast)

"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

The Gypsy revival credited "Gotta Get a Gimmick"'s choreography to Jerome Robbins.
