I love the musical and Im just intersted in the plot if anyone knows. I know its based off the cave explorer, Floyd Collins, but I was wondering if they changed the plot. In real life he gets trapt and they try and dig an alternate shaft to him but it takes 17 days and he dies 3 or 4 days before they get there. Songs like the rescue make me infer he gets out. So what happens in the show basically for all of act II?

The story as presented on stage is factual. Floyd's last song (How Glory Goes) marks his surrender. There is a detailed synopsis in the booklet that comes with the CD.

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

No, he does not get out of the cave. The second act focuses on the media circus that sprung up around Floyd's entrapment in the cave. Eventually, they do attempt another rescue but there's another cave-in. The songs that suggests that he got out are a dream sequence in which he imagines that he was released from the cave...but then he realizes that he's still in there. And he realizes that he's doomed so he sings "How Glory Goes", asking God about the afterlife. Skeets Miller appears in a spotlight telling the audience that Floyd died. Floyd gets out of his trapped position and walks into a pool of light as he sings his echo song and we hear the echoes as the lights fade to black.
