Ok, I saw Hamlet in shakespeare in the park when it was still in previews and in this particular performance Hamlet is constantly seen wearing a small cross around his neck and a collar that, when covered by a coat, is reminiscent of a priest's collar. I took these costume designs as a signal for a very interesting take on the character wherein Hamlet is a priest wherein and he is no longer merely a procrastinator but a man caught between his vows to God and his desire for lust and revenge. However, none of the reviews ever mentioned this concept even though all of the press photos include pictures with Michael Stulhbarg in this costume. I was just wondering if anyone can tell me if they had a similar interpretation or if I am just totally crazy and making it up.
