But just to bring it up again, IMO, you don't have a recording of Les Miserables, unless you have one of Francis Ruffelle as Eponine! I think she's the best thing on the recording, and I wished I would have got to see her in the role! She's AMAZING!
I became a fan of hers and I recently went to her website and bought her first solo album because it contained "The Miller's Son." When the CD arrived I received an autographed CD and two of the Studio headshots featured on her website that were also autographed!
Terrence Mann's Marius was terrible. Everything with Michael Ball and Colm. My favorite is 10th recording.

Yes, Terrance was Javert on the OBC. David Bryant was Marius and he WAS terrible.
Michael Ball owns that role (at least on the available recordings).
I recommend the 10th Anniversary or the Complete Symphonic (because it is "complete").
I like the OLC as well, because I do like Frances' performance (although I'm in the camp that prefers Lea overall)
Sadie... are you going to see Les Miz at the 5th?

I would recommend the TAC and the CSR, though you might want a video/DVD of the TAC. I like the TAC now mainly because of Lea and Ruthie. I like the fact that the CSR has the whole musical as it was that the time of the recording.
It is true that the chemistry between the actors on the CSR might have been affected because many of the actors never worked together in "Les Miserables" and maybe never even met; this world apply to Micheal Ball(Marius), Tracy Shayne(Cosette),and Kaho Shimada(Eponine). Most of time I don't notice. One of the only times I think I haved noticed it is "A Little Fall of Rain," Micheal Ball and Kaho Shimada's voices don't blend, though Kaho might have really been having trouble with her English and/or trying to sound weak might have effected it too. Despite of all this I thought the song wasn't that bad, and Kaho is stronger on the Japanese Red Cast.
The London recording is boring. They all sound bored.
The Broadway recording has fun in it, and they sound invovled.

OLC, I personally love it. Especially the flawless Enjolas*sp* and Marius. But Eponine... is so... TERRIBLE. Her whiny voice annoys me, hence why I have to skip over most of my favorite songs.
I'm now getting the Symphonic Recording too! Yeah for Credit Cards!
So is Kaho Shimada the girl that I have heard about that didn't/doesn't speak any English and sang Eponine perfectly?
I guess that Francis's Eponine is an acquired taste but I SURE do LOVE it!
The symphonic is excellent in terms of a recording; there isn't much better than those opening few notes played by a 100 piece orchestra. My only criticism is that it doesn't have Colm playing Valjean. Gary Morris does a good job, but no one can compare to Colm Wilkinson.
There are only two necessary words to encourage why you should get the CSR. Yes it's great, the orchestra sounds increadible, but it all boils down to 2 little words.
Anthony. Warlow.
I agree Kitzarina. By far the best Enjoras ever.
I'm such a girly girl that I wouldn't be caught dead fighting a revolution. But damn it all, if his delivery of "Let others RISE to take our place until the earth is FREE!!!!" doesn't make me want to climb a barricade and kill some members of the National Guard.
Sheer genius in every way.
I absolutely love the CSR. Gary Morris is a tad rubbish, and I can't stand Tracey Shayne's voice, but Kaho Shimada is a gorgeous Eponine (she has *excellent* English pronunciation for a Japanese girl!), and Anthony Warlow is love. :3
Is it 100% fact that they will not make another Les Mis recording with the new 2006 cast?

I don't think it has been decided yet, JamesMacon, if there is going to be a cast recording of the revival cast. Hopefully, there is still some chance that it will happen.
Get the Complete Symphonic Recording and the 10th Anniversary Concert featuring the Dream Cast.
Colle-
But by now, don't you think they would know? Do they always release the CD before the show opens, or could they release it afterwards?
They wouldn't neccessarily know by now. It's too soon. Sometimes it takes quite a while to either know or to record it. When the OBC of The Secret Garden was released, they had to use a replacement Colin for "Lift Me Up" because the original had already left, his voice had changed, and he couldn't hit the boy soprano notes anymore.
I know they were still considering recording the 10th anniversary Broadway cast a few months after March 1997 (when the new cast opened).
I agree with gavrochegirl. I got the OLC Les Miserables album, nothing like the OBC or 10th Anniversary Concert CD
The OBC...*shiver*. Is it just me, or does everyone sound really metallic on it? I love Michael Maguire, but I couldn't even listen to it more than once, it was just torture.
Go with the TAC!!! It's pretty close to perfect and a lot more complete than the OBC or the OLC. Amazon doesn't directly sell it anymore for some reason though, it's only the marketplace and the average price from the sellers is around $35. I've found it at Border's though for only $25. A steal. :)
Is the recording that LizzieCurry mentioned the same one with Louise Pitre as Fantine?
Thanks!!
It would've helped if you'd quoted the post in question so I wouldn't have to check back to see what I'd said so many weeks ago, but luckily this thread only has two pages.
Yes, Louis Pitre is Fantine in the 1991 Paris revival recording.
Sorry and thank you!
Also, having now heard bits of the OBCR, I'd take OLCR over it anyway, purely because I love Frances Ruffelle, but she sounds broken on the OBCR. XP I still stand by the CSR as my favourite.
Will sell soul for new revival recording pls!
