No. If they miss a performance, it is deducted from their weekly paycheck.
They have a certain amount of sick/vacation days before that happens.
About how many days to they get, does it change depending on how long the show is set to run? And how do they do it for open runs?
I haven't been privy to Equity contracts for a number of years, but I thought it was (used to be) a cumulative amount of days, kind of like at many offices. A certain number of days off for every month you work. Again, my memory could be incorrect, but I seem to recall 2 days for every month, and two weeks at the six month mark.

I've never done a show long enough to get sick days (though I do accrue vacation pay when subbing, which is nice), but according to the rule book, it's 1 performance for every 4 weeks of employment. People who make more than $3,500/wk don't get sick days, and people who make between the PSM's minimum salary and $3,500 only get paid the PSM minimum, not their full salary.
And if a show closes or you leave or whatever, you get paid for up to 11 unused sick days, at the minimum for your category, not full salary.
There's about a million other nitpicky rules, but that's the gist.
