I found this quote on the Michael Crawford Phantom Movie Campiagn site:

Schumacher says that you can expect changes to the orchestrations.
"The music will be re-invented for this film.
Remember, these orchestrations were done sixteen years ago."

This means that the music will be different? =-(

Well, some of the orchestrations were changed or updated for the Evita Film, and they didn't kill it, so don't worry yet!

OK, in a theatre, you can fit an orchestras that numbers in teh 20s. For a film, they can orchestrate in for an orchestra of 70. Different DOESN'T mean bad.

No it doesn't there's just more sound to it. And even sometimes for Cast Recordings they bring in other instruments that arent't there during the show just for sound quality.

Who knows...I've read that they even want to make it "less operatic" okay yea the show is called Phantom of the Opera....sooo they can try to make it less opera i guess by naming it ...Phantom of the Pop idol or something stupid like that.

um.. I don't think that means they will de-opera the sequences of the Operas that Christine is in, but that they make the 'book' numbers less operatic and sung through so that the story tells better in a cinematic context.

I saw our Mr. Butler in Tomb Raider today. I am not worried about his acting. I am worried about his singing! He didn't sing in the movie, but his speaking voice doesn't sound like he is a good singer. However, he is a little big for the phanom. In the movie he looks like a quite ....larger....man. The phantom is best portrayed by a thinner man since he does live in the trenches of the Opera house, not a fat mansion.

Oh...be worried! He admitted in an interview that he's never done anything singing wise like this and that he's not really a singing person.

Join the Phantom Press at Yahoo Groups! Everyday you'll hear something new! Mostly about the movie but the news is about Phantom and sometimes other things like Les Mis. It's always up to date! And tomooseone is very dedicated and a good guy!

Folks, the fact that the movie will be directed by Joel Schumacher should have alerted you to the fact that it will be a piece of garbage.

A couple re-arrangements aren't necessarily a bad idea. I saw the show a few months ago and some of it was sounding pretty dated.

I hope this movie is god-awful. I want to watch phans cry all over the plastic half-masks that they wear to the theater that night, wondering why they don't have a date.

Now John...Be nice re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: Question about the Phantom movie

But with regards to an earlier post stating that they were worried about someone's singing voice when their speaking voice didn't sound so great...Speaking voice and singing voice...You'd be surprised at how different they are. Case in point, I once knew someone who stuttered terribly. Every second word. It was so hard to listen to him talk. But, dude...When he opened his mouth to sing...Unbelievable! Absolutely gorgeous!

That interview you read about Gerard Butler never singing in his life may have been incorrect. His website states that for a long time he was the lead singer in some nowhere band.

ALW was 'blown away' when asked to sing an ALW song at his audition.

Personally, I think that Schumacher isn't a terrible director, just a hit and miss type. He's made a lot of good movies, like Falling Down, A Time To Kill, Phone Booth, 8 MM... and several bad ones as well.

I'm not going to claim that I think this will be a great movie. It really could go either way, I think. But I think people really should keep an open mind until they see the film.

The reason Gerard is so big in Tomb Raider is because he trained extensively to get in shape for the part. He learned all sorts of combative skills before shooting and was very dedicated. I find it reassuring that he's an actor who's committed to learning his craft.

And yes, orchestrations are good, I can't wait to hear what they do with it. I mean, c'mon, of course there are going to be at least some orchestrations. Chicago even had 15 minutes of new music in it, granted, it was mostly following the existing themes, but still.

I didn't know he was training for Tomb Raider. I am not a Butler follower. In fact before the POTO movie I could have cared less who he was. I just hope this one isn't ruined. Maybe Mr. Wilson will make up for Butler. Who knows. Enough said by me on this topic.
