I agree w/RentBoy about Fiddler not touring.
Also, how was Rosie? Any pics of the Fruma Sarah scene? How did David portray her? How were the show's sets?

I loved the set and I thought Rosie was great! She wasn't the best thing about the show but the role isn't a big singing role so I think she pulled it off.
I'm sure you can find pics of the Fruma Sarah scene somewhere.

If memory serves me correctly, Fruma Sarah made her entrance rising out of her grave (on wires) and floated midair throughout the rest of the scene. She wore a long red dress (which I didn't really get) with a train that reached all the way to the stage floor. I believe they had her fly about a bit as well.
I never understood the whole sponge bath. I mean, I get that he didn't want to do the traditional Robbins broom dance but c'mon now, that was a bit much.
Z.
PS. I saw it with Harvey and Andrea Martin and was thrilled to see two bagels in that English muffin revival.

Posted: 12/25/06 at 7:42pmThe dream sequence had Fruma as described BUT she pretty much stayed stationary on a big red ladder that she held onto the whole time...Tzeital and Motel flew in, and the cast was dressed like animals (albeit Tevye, Golde, and Grandma Tzeital). A cool effect during the scene was when they had the stage become temporarily raked (STEEPLY, mind you).

The stage was always raked, if memory serves, though I could be wrong.
Leveaux's inspiration was Checkov. The whole production turned out to be cold and sterile.

Posted: 12/25/06 at 8:21pmI was able to go on the stage, and if memory serves me correctly, it was raked, but during the sequence it suddenly did a 170 degree flip downward, elevating Tevye's bed, making it more raked than usual.

Uh... right. Sure it did.
Okay, I'll bite: did you actually *see* the production? I'm kinda thinking not, since you cant tell the difference between the Oklahoma prairie and the woods in the Ukraine.

Posted: 12/26/06 at 9:22amThis production was devastatingly awful. Talk about destroying a show. I cannot believe it lasted as long as it did. Like we needed a FIDDLER Revival filling one of our Broadway theaters anyway. I saw it with Alfred and Harvey. Alfred was miscast. I don't blame him. He just wasn't meant to play this role. Just because a man can grow a beard does not mean he can play a capable Tevye. But really, the problems went beyond whomever was playing Tevye. Leveaux is gaining a reputation for making bold choices that tear apart American works of art.

"I have also met him in person, and I find him to be quite funny actually. Arrogant and often misinformed, but still funny."
