yes. We bought our first pair in Cabo san Lucas in 2002, and replaced them this year in Santa Fe.
We do a little thing whenever we get in the car. I'll hold my right hand up and wiggle my finger to show him I'm wearing it.......and then he does. Silly, I know....but.....touching

Yes we wear rings. We started out with matching rings from Ruby's in P-town, and I have proceeded to lose 3 rings (manifestation of some sub-conscious desire???) Now they no longer match.
And do you wear them on the Right or Left hand?
And Elphaba--In a variety of circumstances, we "knock" our rings together and say "shape of...."
The gays--they're just adorable, aren't they?

right hand, where the Europeans wear them.....mainly to distinguish from straight American couples who wear them on the left.......
plus in my case I have a beautiful mother of pearl and silver ring I bought in Ravello, Italy that I wear on that finger on my left hand

Is it the concept of Monogomy? The ring as a symbol of monogomy? Or just any of the trappings of the heteronormative world?
When we first got rings, I wore it on the Left hand to provoke the question from people "Are you married?" and then I could climb up on my soap box.

More the trappings of the hetero world; I certainly support monogamy for those of us who choose it, and while I am not crazy about the idea of marriage, I do realize that there are important legal elements that come with the act.
Please understand I am not critcising others who choose to wear rings; I guess in my own life I strive to maintain a certain distance from being completely absorbed by the hetero world in which I live and work. I hope this makes sense.

When I was with my former partner, we had matching Celtic bands - mine in yellow gold, hers in white gold, but were saving them for when we had some kind of "ceremony" which she wanted and which didn't interest me so much...I wanted something small and low-key if anything, and she wanted the whole mock-wedding deal - you know, dresses, family, reception, etc. I wear it now when an outfit calls for it because it's pretty.
I did wear her grandmother's diamond. I miss it.

I wasn't inferring any criticism, just curious about the rationale. For those of us with the luxury of choosing whether to blend in or stand out, it's an ever-present question.
When I am with my partner's blond, blue-eyed, ski-jump nose, plaid-headband sister, and we're pushing her baby (in a stroller) down the street, I am overwhelmed at the power of the warm embrace of the larger world. The acceptance is incredible. And I live in Chelsea, where the acceptance level of my reality is pretty high.
Then I snap out of it and put on my Jimmy Choos and hit the streets...

Posted: 8/7/05 at 1:31pmwe wear matching platinum and white gold bands on our left hands. the two metals cross over each other - a nice symbol, we think. my partner picked mine out - it was a one of a kind - and he nailed my style exactly. the bands are simple, elegant and symbolic.

If we were married, we would wear them, but since we are not taking that step yet, I get to be ring free a little longer.....I really don't like wearing jewelry very much. For some reason it annoys me. Especially rings. I find myself having to take them off after a while.
