re: Question for the people who think Shrek has an unmemorable score.

Re YF: Doesn't it tell you something about the score when the song used in TV commercials was "Puttin' On The Ritz" - even they couldn't find anything else they thought would help sell the show.

As for SHREK - not very good, but servicable. There really wasn't anything I ever need to hear again, but at least it didn't bore me. (Well, most of the time it didn't bore me.)
2016 These Paper Bullets (1/02) Our Mother's Brief Affair (1/06), Dragon Boat Racing (1/08), Howard - reading (1/28), Shear Madness (2/10), Fun Home (2/17), Women Without Men (2/18), Trip Of Love (2/21), The First Gentleman -reading (2/22), Southern Comfort (2/23), The Robber Bridegroom (2/24), She Loves Me (3/11), Shuffle Along (4/12), Shear Madness (4/14), Dear Evan Hansen (4/16), American Psycho (4/23), Tuck Everlasting (5/10), Indian Summer (5/15), Peer Gynt (5/18), Broadway's Rising Stars (7/11), Trip of Love (7/27), CATS (7/31), The Layover (8/17), An Act Of God (8/31), The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time (8/24), Heisenberg (10/12), Fiddler On The Roof (11/02), Othello (11/23), Dear Evan Hansen (11/26), Les Liaisons Dangereuses (12/21) 2017 In Transit (2/01), Groundhog Day (4/04), Ring Twice For Miranda (4/07), Church And State (4/10), The Lucky One (4/19), Ernest Shackleton Loves Me (5/16), Building The Wall (5/19), Indecent (6/01), Six Degrees of Separation (6/09), Marvin's Room (6/28), A Doll's House Pt 2 (7/25) Curvy Widow (8/01)

Yes. Shrek is a bit better than Young Frankenstein, though. I find the Mel Brooks scores to be rather generic. The songs are more about serving up lyrical jokes rather than strong melodies. I even think Spamalot did a better job.

Shrek is good. Not Tesori's best work by any means, but it fits the characters well and is somewhat catchy. The staging of some of the numbers is downright bad, but you can't knock it for that. I'd even go so far as to say it's a better score than that of Billy Elliot, a score that I didn't particularly enjoy.

The score to BILLY is downright awful. it's atrocious and terrible. none of the songs should have ever seen the light of day.

Musically, they're fine. But they are just the cheesiest, most bland, most unoriginal, and the clunkiest lackluster songs I have heard in a looong time.

What's so funny?

Speaking as a musician, they're perfectly fine. Elton John is a very smart composer.

He just writes terrible stuff from a LISTENER point-of-view. As an audience member, I hate the songs. But as a musician, I can look at the actual music (chord progressions, fundamental structures, melody/harmony counterpart) and say "That's Acceptable"

You're a complete jackass for trying to turn that around. I think it's hilarious that you didn't even understand what I was saying.

Sorry, I just wanted to know if it was beach weather!

You know, 'cause that would explain all the sand up your patooter.

You're one of the most obnoxious people here, BFF of mine. That's a bit like the pot calling the kettle black then sending them nasty PMs about it.
