Posted: 6/20/05 at 1:32pmI think "What a Game" was one of the clips in the website reel... or at least I hope it was! I'd be infuriated if it were cut too! (I'm already not understanding why "Harry Houdini, Master Escapist" doesn't always appear in productions of Ragtime... is it in this one?)

Just viewed the clip. Again let me state my insane jealousy. :)
Oddly though... maybe it was just me, but the clip reminded me of "Chicago" for some reason. It must just be the way it was edited.

Posted: 6/20/05 at 2:12pmI also don't mind Evelyn not performing on the swing. The real Evelyn Nesbit was only in the red velvet swing as a teenager a few years before the murder trial. She didn't perform on a swing as depicted in the movie "The Girl in the Red Velvet Swing" or the Broadway production of "Ragtime." From your posts, I gather that some sort of swing dance is being performed instead. That may be more appropriate since, during and after the trial, she did assume a reputation for 'swinging' from one opportunity to another!

Posted: 6/20/05 at 4:04pmthat's sad that there's no swing. but i guess if it wasn't in the original broadway production then it's fine. how's shonn wiley (mother's younger brother), for anyone who has seen it?

Posted: 6/20/05 at 10:57pmNo, the swing was in the original Broadway production of Ragtime. The real Evelyn Nesbit just never performed on one publicly for commercial gain. In other words, the elimination of the swing prop and performance of a swing dance instead are steps toward making Ragtime the musical's Evelyn Nesbit true to the real woman.
