Here is an interesting interview from 1958 including Julie Andrews, Rex Harrison and Stanley Holloway. Also included is footage from opening night of the audience arriving at the theatre.

This is glorious. How delicious to see the divine Miss Andrews on her opening night.  And goodness how Opening Nights on Broadway used to be. So glamourous!

This is actually footage of the opening night at Drury Lane in London in 1958... NOT of the opening night at the Mark Hellinger in NYC in 1956!

The attendant glamour, fashion, and mood of optimism should be seen in the context of everybody's knowledge that they are appearing in the generous press coverage of a fabulous success.

Why, even Sir Winston Churchill was there.

Yes, of course, I'm so sorry! The marquee of the theatre at the beginning is of the Drury Lane Theatre in London!

I find it so funny how Rex Harrison said he wasn't beginning to identify with Professor Higgins, and yet the guy practically breathed the part while onscreen and I'm assuming onstage, too. Such a wonderful talent!

Does anyone know if that was Kenneth More arriving at the theater at about the 0:37 mark? It looked a lot like him, but he went by so fast it was hard to be sure.

Harriet, I'm happy you enjoyed it. I wish that I could share the Miles Kreuger footage of My Fair Lady... However I have something similar that I shall be posting soon, so keep checking!
