yeah, but they weren't all on the phone. It was two guys standing up, one with a phone in his hand, and a girl sitting with the rest of the phone in her lap. Hm.
"I don't understand why theatrediva said "If you haven't seen the non-equity tour, please don't speak as if you know it."
Can you explain this to me?"
I think it's clear.....
Wack, if you read my post properly, I never said a single thing against the tour. My post is clear. If you haven't seen a certian production, don't speak as if you have.

I saw this tour with a different cast and it was only one step above high school swing choir. It was shameful.
Having said that, if this is your only opportunity to see Rent - go ahead.
I'm sorry for that. There was a guy I worked with over the summer who is supposed to be playing Collins(I think) in this tour. I can't remember his name, but he's a great guy.

Warren Nolan is Collins and has been since this leg of the tour began back in February.
I know that I've seen the phone used in this scene before and not just with the non-Eq tours. It's not just a case of this tour 'changing things up', which, in fact, they do not do.
Rentboy, if you have a problem with the blocking and staging of this scene, you'll have to go back years and years. It's always been done that way with the actors onstage in those positions. Give Michael Greif a call.
Nope not Warren then.
Damn, I don't know where my program is from Dolly this summer.
Anyway, he's an AA actor, very handsome, and everyone was excited for him.
If I see his name, it'll click.
Alrighty, I apologize TheatreDiva.
Lets just say a BUNCH of people I know have been bitching about Non-Eq tours, so when I just saw that one line, I got kind of worked up. That wasn't fair to you...plus that came out a WHOLE lot more bitchy than intended. No hard feelings, right? lol.

I'm good. TAG you're it!

The only time I've seen the show was the Original London Cast in 1997. I seem to remember a large sheet onstage with lots of people pressing different body parts out towards the audience. Does anyone know if this is how it was staged for the London production? Or am I making that up in my head... it was a long time ago...

No, they still do that. That's the central focus of the scene, but then there are these added things thta don't really make sense to me.
And, I've had horrible encounters with Non-Equity tours. I didn't think this one was as bad as some of the others, but still, it lacked some talent. I didn't really think any of them were very capable singers, but they're young, so maybe they're just not comfortable with their voices yet.

I've had HORRIBLE experiences with some Equity tours. Having a little card is no symbol of ones talent.

Well I've yet to see anyone on a Non-Equity that's wowed me. Except for Angie from Cats who sang "Memory" - her vocals were amazing.

I've seen several of both kinds of touring companies, as well as dozens of Broadway shows and off-Broadway and I agree with tourboi, having an Equity card is no guarantee that you're any better than someone who doesn't. There have been very talented actors on non-Equity tours I've seen this year, both in the first leg of the Rent tour (a few of whom are still with the tour) and the current JCS tour, as talented as any I've seen on Broadway.
