I just saw RENT again and I Have to say some of the cast is better then others...but Merle Dandridge as Joanne is irreplaceble!! Honestly she did an amazing job..she was in it last time I saw it and she just gets better!! She fits the part so perfectly!!

I saw Krystal a few weeks ago and she was phenomenal. She saved the show for me.
Drew Lachey on the other hand....yech.

I'm sorry but Drew Lackey was the worst thing I have seen on the Broadway stage in a long time. By far the worst Rent cast member ever. Well, I didn't like Karen Olivo as Mimi either but that's another subject. Drew's voice was okay, but his acting and delivery of lines was sooo sub-par.
And what's up with the lisp?

Posted: 11/28/04 at 4:36pmI thought Drew was pretty ok a couple of weeks ago. Much better than he was in the beginning from what I've heard. But after seeing Matt play Mark so many times, it's hard for me to find anyone even 1/2 as good as him. Matt is definitely the best Mark I've seen. Same goes for Jeremy's Roger...always manages to bring me to tears everytime I see it.

I don't think the lisp thing is a low blow at all. I'm fine with people having a lisp--I know many homos who do--but where I run into trouble with it, and especially with Drew, is when the lisp distracts from their performance. I honestly couldn't get past it and I don't think that's me being ignorant, it's just honesty. If you have a lisp or speech impediment and can't control it then you aren't meant for the Broadway stage until you can control it, plain and simple. There were so many times when I was watching the show that I just put my head in my hands after he said a line. Maybe I'm overreacting, but it was VERY pronounced the night I went.
