re: RENT Lyric Question

I think I read somewhere that it's a reference to some paper plate that used to be a prop, or some sort of part in Maureen's Over The Moon act. But she took it out.

Am I correct, Wax Lion? re: RENT Lyric Question

re: RENT Lyric Question

Wax Lions would like to present tonight's RENT menu:

Chestnuts, curry vindaloo, huevos rancheros, yogurt, rice, beans, cheese, bananas (by the bunch), cap'n crunch, miso soup, seaweed salad, soy burger, tofu dog, pasta with meatless balls, meat with brushed-on sauce, fries and chips (anyone?).

And to drink? Diet coke, milk, tea, champagne, stoli, wine, beer and bustelo.

So here's something fun. Those are all the actual food items that are mentioned in the show...now...how many times does a cast member in RENT talk about "Eating" in general? There are lots! It's a very food-intense show!

Love,
Wax Lion

re: RENT Lyric Question

the question, "What'd you forget?" is actually to Mark. he doesn't look at the door at first, until Mimi sings, and so the "What'd you forget" is as if Mark is coming back to the apartment to get something. make sense?

re: RENT Lyric Question

Did Wax Lion get logged in as somebody else?

I'll go listen to the CD while I work - maybe I can do this. re: RENT Lyric Question

re: RENT Lyric Question

Couple more food items...

bread (as in "headlines, bread lines blow my mind...)

(Cups of) coffee...(In Seasons)

Sadly though, I don't beleive there any mentions of "peaches" in RENT. : (

If only I had my CD at work, I would start listening for eating references as well!

This is making me hungry.

re: RENT Lyric Question

Food is mentioned a lot in Act One but not so much in Act Two
Is it because their hunger for love has been quenched? Yo no se

re: RENT Lyric Question

emcee - dude, you must know what i'm referring to.... adam sings it :) it goes; "i think we've met", "that's what he said" and then adam saiys "i said it...." before he sings the i should tell you in the background. what the hell is he saying? it is driving me mad.

re: RENT Lyric Question

The CD insert isn't anywhere that I can get to it, but the breakdown of who says what is all in there. Somewhere in all of that jumbled music and dialogue, you hear an "I said it's a GRAM!" That's not Adam. That's the guy who's selling drugs, referring to the quantity he's selling. I posted it before, but you hear Adam sing in his upper register, kind of slowly and drawn-out "let's not hold hands yet...." Once you know it's there, it kind of sticks out. Then there's the "I should tell you," etc, etc.

re: RENT Lyric Question

Wax Lion would like to tell KAS that "The Man", originally played by the brilliant Timothy Britten Parker, is yelling "I SAID ITS A GRAM!". It's not Roger. So sorry to dissapoint all the M'adam fans out there...

Heh yeah now all of the dialogue jumble from Christmas Bells is stuck in my head and it won't leave! I've been humming it while reading through this thread. :-P

re: RENT Lyric Question

In regards to the Mark/Roger/Mimi convo in Christmas Bells, You can hear Matt, Cary and Karmine VERY well during the show. Just stare at the characters you wanna hear and it will come to you. Or tune everything other than Adam, ANthony and Daphne in the OBCR and you will hear it all.

re: RENT Lyric Question

It's definitely much easier to catch those things live.

re: RENT Lyric Question

Yeah I'd imagine its alot easier to hear the different dialogues live. On the recording its all jumbled together but its still pretty easy if you listen for the one person you want to hear since they all have such unique and different voices from one another.

re: RENT Lyric Question

i had a lyric question...
in "light my candle" roger sings "i know i've seen you out and about, when i used to go out...your candle's out" then what does mimi sing after that... its like "something....i had when i walked through the door, it was pure! is it on the floor"
it's been driving me crazy, me and my friend can't figure it out.
