This is the weirdest question, but if there's anyplace to get an answer, this is it...
Okay, so has anyone ever seen a production of RENT in the U.K.? If so, I am wondering if the British actors in the show speak and sing with an American accent. I'm curious, because British accents are so important here onstage and in film. One would think that a musical about a bunch of new Yorkers wouldn't star a bunch of Brits with accents.
Does anyone have an definitive info??
Thanks all,
Adam

Well, a few OBC members recreated their roles in London, so I assume anyone who followed them also used American accents...I didn't see the production though, sorry!
I saw Rent in London in 1998. Whoever wasn't American used an American accent. You could hear some accents slip in a few scenes, but they sounded pretty good.
They also changed "Smile for Ted Koppel" to "Smile for CNN," since there's obviously no Nightline in the UK.
