I searched and didn't see this... if I missed it posted already, I'm sorry...
From www.siteforrent.com....
As part of its 10th anniversary celebration, ALL tickets for the regular 8pm performance of RENT on Tuesday, April 25th, will be $20. At the box office only... cash only... first come, first served... box office opens at 9:00 AM. Limit 2 tickets for person. No regular lottery that day.
the official site
Are they selling them in advance, or only the day of?
Hmm... not sure... it says that it's at the box office only and says when the box office opens that day, so, I'd *think* only that day, but, I'm not 100% sure.
Probably just day of. They did this before, for the 3000th performance, I believe. Big line that time, but I still got good seats.

This sounds awesome, but by what time should you get there? I mean, I have school more than a half hour away that starts at 8:30, so I obviously couldn't be there at 9, but how much later could I come before it would be sold out? Very important question...:)

I'm a little confused by this...that box that pops up on the website explaining about the $20 tickets says the event is on Tuesday the 25th, but the actual link for information about the event says the 24th. Which is it?
The broadway performance of Rent is on the 25th and those tickets are $20. The Special 10 Year anniversary performance with the original cast is on the 24th, those tickets are extremely expensive and for a charity. They start at $1,000.
if they're not doing lotto, people are going to be camping out just like they did back in the day.... that is going to be one crazy day!
are they doing anything special on the tuesday night?

They probably won't do anything overly huge, but I'd imagine they'll do something. They can't just ignore the fact that it opened a decade earlier, to the day.
I thought it actually opened on the 29th? My sense was the specially priced show on Tuesday wasn't the actual anniversary, but, just part of the celebrating its 10th anniversary with the benefit, the podcast, etc.
RENT did indeed open on April 29, 1996 - so this performance isn't exactly it's 10th Anniversary - which falls on Saturday night - and I imagine they chose a Tuesday because it's the least popular night of the week and they won't loose as much money as on a Saturday. Either way, I'll be there Monday, Tuesday, and Saturday. Can't wait.
Lestat is opening this same night. Who know's if it has anything to do with that.

Why would it have anything to do with Lestat?

Im sure there will be more people at Rent than at Lestat
Umm...I don't think RENT is going to be shaking in her boots about LEfreakinSTAT.
The performance on the actual anniversary is apparently already sold out; this is probably in order to line up with the benefit, or something.
