RENT review 5/6/07

i saw RENT today for the second time

Tim Howar as Roger. He is amazing. The only other Roger I've seen was Cary Sheilds and he sucked. Tim howar's voice and acting is great. He looked like he was having a great time up on stage. He shows a ton of emotion.

Matt Caplan as Mark. The second time I've seen him. He's amazing. I'm glad I caught him in between Hanke's vacation. He knows RENT backwards and fowards. Great chemistry with the whole cast. His voice is great too.

Try Horne as Collins. In the begginging he didn't do it for me. But when it got closer to today 4 u and i'll cover you he was good. His I cover you reprise would have been amazing had it not looked like he was trying SO hard to cry. Overall he was ok.

D'Monroe as Benny. Good, not great. He's been with the show for so long like Matt Caplan , Justin Johnston and Karmine Alers but he lacked passion in his acting. I didn't feel much. But he was ok.

Tonya Dixon as Joanne. Great. Her acting, singing and chemistry with everyone especially Nicoltee Hart was amazing.

Justin Johnston as Angel. I now see why he has been with the show for so many years. He does a great job. Looks like he enjoys it very much. He can sing, dance and act very well. Great job.

Karmine Alers as Mimi- I'm SOOO glad I caught her in between Antonique and Tamyra Gray. WOW this girl can do anything.
I saw her in august 2005 when she was mimi. She is amazing at singing, acting and has great chemistry with the whole entire cast.

Nicoltee Hart as Maureen. Started out a little shaky but got better as the show progressed. She sounded to pop-ish for maureen. DOn't get me wrong, she has a great voices. Just not a RENT type of actress. If that makes any sense.

Haven Burton is great. She really looked like she was having fun with her little roles.

Marcus Paul James also looked happy to be on stage in RENT. He looks like a Collins and sounds like one too so I'm curious to see how his collins is.

Gwen Stewart. No wonder they brought her back. She kicks butt. So much better than Frenchie Davis. Gwen Stewart looks like she wants to be on stage. Frenchie Davis looked like she was being forced. Gwen's voice is a million times better too.

Luther Creek really lacked. He no joke looked like someone was holding a gun to his bead and making him be in RENT. Maybe it was an off day but his singing was very low..And i was in the second row dead center so i don't know.

Owen, Shaun and Moeisha all looked like they were having a blast. Great dancing, singing and overall stage presence.

the theater was about half full today. I now see why the producers are bringing in Anthony Rapp and Adam Pascal.. They must need to make some more money.

Thanks for the review.

I agree with what you said about Matt. I hated him at the end of his last run but ever since he came back he's been good. And Luther is usually like that, he always looks bored.

Hmm... did not feel the same way as you felt about Tim. Tim did a LOT of screaming, in my opinion. The role is a pretty loud one, but he did a lot more screaming than was nessecary or healthy. He was pretty odd-looking too...
