"I love this score and it is almost IMPOSSIBLE to understand what cultural impact this piece had in its day."
Really? I think for it to be "almost IMPOSSIBLE to understand" you would just need to have a serious lack of imagination.
No it is impossible. We cannot compare the culture of 1969 to 2009. Too much has come to pass in the last forty years. It may be easy for you, Namo, if you were alive then, but for those who weren't it is truly IMPOSSIBLE to understand the seachange going on at the time and how a work such as this was a CULTURAL MILESTONE. I would expect you to be able to see that. But I have a feeling you are just questioning what I said, because that is your wont it seems in relation to anything I say, ever.
If you'd like to read my thesis, I'd be happy to dig it up and send it to you.

The staggering volume of self-importance in this thread makes baby (and old) Jesus cry.
So after 'Mamma Mia' Universal want to make some more bucks out of another stage musical.
Great idea but JCS not not be the best idea. Have they forgotten what made 'Mamma Mia' such a hit. Might have been the music off Abba.
If i was them i'd chose another jukebox musical that has the potential to work around the globe. It might be a tricky task, but i wouldnt mind seeing The Jersey Boys directed by Scorsese.

I agree that the only thing that made "Mamma Mia" do so well was the ABBA music. However, another company (I think New Line Cinema) already bought the rights to "Rock of Ages". I think "Jersey Boys" would make a good movie, if directed by the right person. However, apparently Universal forgot they already announced plans to make movies from "In the Heights" and "Wicked". Actually, movies from "Wicked" and "Jesus Christ Superstar" were both announced at the same time, about a year ago:

i assume they'll sit on Wicked for a good few years yet. There's no reason for them to make it at the moment while the show is still doing so well, but even when they do decide to make it i'm sure whoever they decide to cast i'm sure many posters will fill up these threads with disgust.
