How sad......yet another one is gone. What is going on here?
You know, I just watched Broadway's Lost Treasures today and thought to myself, "I hope I get to meet John Raitt before he passes away"
This really upsets me, as I'm sure it does us all.
Such a talent.
Rest in Peace.

One of the all-time greats and a sad day for Broadway. My thoughts are with Bonnie and the rest of his family.
Where did you hear about this? I can't find it anywhere.
EDIT: Heh, I should really look at the links at the top of the page.
You never want to believe that Broadway is dying a slow death, but when a star of his magnitude passes away without much fanfare in the press...
Mr. Raitt is brilliant to watch in clips from old television shows. Imagine how amazing he must have been to see on stage, live. There are no new performers that come close to doing what he did for so many years.
This is terrible, what a shock. =(
RIP. He'll be greatly missed. =(
What an immense talent -and from all accounts - an incredible heart. Thank you for inspiring us all Mr. Raitt.
wow. I had heard he was sick and there were even early, refuted rumors of his passing a day or two ago...but it's still a shock.
Rest easy, John. I think I'll listen to Carousel now.

I saw him at the Schmidt/Jones evening at the Pasadena Playhouse a few months ago, and he looked as hale and hearty as ever (and he was so funny). I always used to say he was the greatest walking advertisement of healthy living. I never would have guessed he would go so soon.
I feel so fortunate that many of his performances ("Carousel," "Pajama Game," "Annie Get Your Gun") were recorded. He will be dearly missed.

Such a tremendous talent; no one else could touch him on the "Soliloquy" from "Carousel," he owned that. And now I have "Hey There" from "Pajama Game" stuck in my head. He was a genuine Bway legend; RIP, indeed.

In addition to all the memories posted here, I'll always remember him & Bonnie popping in to sing a duet on David Letterman's show. What a class act.
Hey there, you with the stars in your eyes
Love never made a fool of you
You used to be too wise
Hey there, you on that high flying cloud
Though she won't throw a crumb to you
You think some day she'll come to you
Better forget her
Her with her nose in the air
She has dancing on a string
Break it and she won't care
Won't take this advice
I hand you like a brother
Or are you not seeing things too clear
Are you too much in love to hear
Is it all going in one ear
And out the other
Better forget her
Her with her nose in the air
She has you dancing on a string
Break it and she won't care
Won't you take this advice
I hand you like a brother
Or are you not seeing things too clear
Are you too much in love to hear
Is it all going in one ear and out the other
Oh my gosh, Howard Keel and now John Raitt. The last leading men. I thought he made a wonderful appearance on the Tony awards a couple of years ago. Goodbye....we'll miss you.
