Phyllis Diller was a trail brazer for for female comedians. Without her we would not have Joan Rivers, Ellen DeGeneres, Roseanne, Tina Fey, Kathy Griffin, Wanda Sykes, Margaret Cho, Kristin Wiig and countless other female comedians. I hope The New York Times puts her obituary on the front page. She certainly earned that spot.

When I was a kid, I used to love seeing Phyllis Diller on The Ed Sullivan Show and other variety shows. My favorite joke of hers in those days was: "I've learned the only way I can wake up with a smile on my face is to go to bed with a coat hanger in my mouth."
She made us laugh for decades. RIP Miss Diller.

A friend once said her Hello, Dolly was the best he ever saw -- and he saw a lot of them.
"When I was born, the doctor slapped everybody!"
