Posted: 3/1/06 at 11:54pmThe third year students at the CAP21 Conservatory (part of NYU's Tisch School) opened tonight with a new workshop version of RADIANT BABY based on the life of artist Keith Haring. It was done at the Public Theater a few years back. Both Debra Barsha (music) and Stuart Ross (book/lyrics) have been a part of this workshop and attended opening night tonight. The show runs from now until March 10. For more info on tickets visit: http://www.theatermania.com/content/show.cfm/show/118982

I'm seeing this next week. I've always been sorry to have missed RADIANT BABY the first go-round - I liked what I've heard of Deb Barsha's score when I saw her perfrm some of them at the Center last year.
I'm really tickled to get a chance to see it.

How was it? I went to CAP21's website. The shop seems to be very small. How many instruments are they in this production? I understand that this is a student production and I’m interested in this production. However, I like to know what to expect as well.
I did love The Public Theatre's production. I saw it four times.
Thank you.

Hello Everyone:
Been a lurker of the board for a while, but when I saw this post, I had to join so I could write about it because I love this show. The CAP21 production is done on a much smaller, simpler scale. It's done in their Shop Theater a small space, creating the atmosphere of being apart of the world of Keith Haring. I think there is a lot of weak direction in this production, the book is very different than the version I remember done at the Public, and it doesn't have the loudness in the staging as the version done at the Public. New songs, what I believe are new scenes as well. It was a very lively and emotional night. But it was very impressive to see a bunch of talented young college students bring to life the story of Keith Haring. I went to see the show Friday night, and the audience was right there laughing and crying with the actors. I've recommended the show to a few of my friends, and recommend the show if you want to see a bunch of passionate students who are definitley on the up and coming side of the theater.
