I really want to see this, but they seem to be sold out of the $25 seats on the days I can go. I have to travel down from New York and I can't really afford the $69 seats. Does anyone know if they usually come out with a discount as the event gets closer?
Thanks!

They do offer some student discounts and such. Have you checked the KC website?

Posted: 3/1/09 at 11:43pmI did, but it wasn't very helpful. I signed up for their Attend program, but Ragtime isn't listed in the current offers. Is there something else I'm missing? Do they regularly have a student rush for all their shows?

The Kennedy Center is WEIRD. You really have to call them and talk to a human being. You have to do all the questioning because they do not, routinely, offer ANY information about discounts and the like. Specifically ask about the STUDENT discount. (I got half-price tix for my kids doing this once.)
But, be forewarned. It all depends on the person you get on the phone. If the person with whom you first speak is uncooperative or disagreeable or just plain uninformative, thank them, hang up and call back to speak with someone different.
Also, become an online patron (it's free.) I got an email at 2:00 AM on December 22 offering top seats for Legally Blonde for $25.00 for the Xmas Eve matinee. there isn't much rhyme or reason to their "discounting." If things aren't selling, they'll sometimes give discounts, but "you never know"!
You can also check out Goldstar and the DC TicketPlace, but you have to be prepared to hop a bus and attend whatever performance they're offering a discount for, so it's not something you can really plan for.
Anyway, this is my experience. Perhaps others have more helpful info for you.

Posted: 3/2/09 at 9:38amThe $25 tickets were never available online, you have to buy them in person at the box office. They might still be sold out, though, there's only 20 available for each performance.

Posted: 3/2/09 at 9:49amI'm an idiot. My dad ordered expensive tickets and told me they were the cheapest he could get. Ah well, at least I'm going!(Even though now I won't get anything else for my birthday).

Ragtime is selling well. As others have pointed out, sometimes KC sends out discount codes to select performances to their online (e-patron) members. I would not count on them though and they usually are not sent out that far in advance. There really is no need for them to discount when tickets are going fast.
In terms of it being on the Attend program list, I would say it is possible, but unlikely. Usually the big musicals don't end up on there, especially the ones that sell.
