As there have been many posts on this subject...I thought I'd start another thread. I just bought my tix for Ragtime at Papermill, and it will be my farewell show, for after ten years of living in NYC, I will be leaving for LA a few days after. It's perfect, being that Ragtime is my all time favorite show, and I caught the first run on Broadway with the original cast. However, I'm just curious if anyone has seen the London production of this, considering that they are doing it the same way as they did on the London stage, and was wondering if anyone saw both productions in comparison.
Not that it matters to me, because I could see the worst production of this show (I actually did when I flew down to Florida to see a high school do it) and still love the show.
Also besides Rachel York, does anyone know who else is cast?

"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

I did not see the London production, but it got rave reviews and won a few Oliviers. Also, it was a minimalist staging, so very scaled down from what we saw on Broadway.

The only other cast member I can think of off the top of my head in Kenita Miller, who will be playing Sarah. She is LaChanze's current understudy in DESSA ROSE.

Justice -

I was at the original opening night in Toronto and even the it was in excellent shape and featured one of the best scores of the last 10 years! So, like you I feel even a mediocre production would be wothwhile (not that PMP's production shoule even approach that level!) Even the scaled down B&T tour that swung back this way in 2002 was excellent and in many scenes even more effective than the elaborate Broadway staging.

But ... how could you ever leave New York? Oh well, best of luck with the move.

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

I just saw Dessa Rose about 1 week and a half ago, and I saw blessed to have seen La'Chanz's understudy, I don't remember her name, but she was amazing!!! She is playing Sarah at Papermill. Definately see it. She is sooo worth it. I actually liked her more than La'Chanz.
