How does one go about getting the money to do a non-professional/non-union staging of a musical ? I'm talking money for the rights and things like that first off and then money for sets, costumes, etc. Would it be beneficial to find someone to act as a producer and "invest" in the show ? I'm involved in an up and coming theatre group and we'd like to put on "Bat Boy" in the future because of it's small cast, inexpensive sets, costumes and the great music/subject matter. Any information you could possibly give me, either in posts or pm's, would be much appreciated. Thanks !

My boyfriend was researching starting a theatre group as well, and he was told that a good first step it to try to establish yourself as a "non-profit" organization. I'm not sure exactly how to do that, but I'll see if he has more information. It's also always a good idea to hold fundraisers if you can. I'm involved with a group that raises money for a local resident with high medical bills, and because all of our proceeds go to a beneficiary, we hold car washes, and ad drives (selling ads for the program) to raise money to put on the show. Where are you trying to start this group?
