Posted: 10/25/10 at 1:36amMy understanding here in LA is that they're taking it kind of slowly.... It's a crapshoot kinda show, and Newman (who is, I believe, one of our finest) doesn't want the show to be forced into creative foreclosure just because of an agenda. But that's all I know.

I don't think it could be, since the album has no Throughline at all.
I, too, think Newman is one of our bests, and has always been great at expressing character through song, since his earliest days. His score for Faust is really wonderful, and it's a shame the show is never produced. I'd love to see it.

While it has the same title as his most recent album, the promo materials mention songs throughout his career. "You've Got a Friend in Me" and "I Love LA" have been specifically mentioned as being in the show.
I bought tickets to see it in December. It will be interested in seeing if it has legs beyond the Taper. Everyone assumed last season's Parade revival would also make it to NY, but it seemed to only an LA thing.
As over heard at Dodger Stadium, It's not over until Randy Newman sings. (and they weren't playing much Randy Newman after the games this year)
