Rare On Your Toes Art

I saw this on eBay and my heart nearly stopped. I was racing for the credit card as it said "BuyNow" until I saw the dreaded words "Reproduction" and I was sooooo depressed.

This is a very rare piece as "On Your Toes" paper is so hard to find. I have the pre, during and post Broadway programs and a magnificent souvenir program but the flyer and the post-Broadway souvenir program are still waiting to come to me.

As you can see, the original cast did the very limited tour after the show closed in '36 and the nekked girlz on the Broadway artwork were cleaned up for the hinterlands tour.

Nylons and nipples were hard to come by during the Depression, apparently.

Great to see this artwork! Nothing like a row of ballet hookers to sell a show, I always say.

Broadway in the 1930s was a VERY bawdy place. In addition to the George White Scandals and the various Billy Rose shows, all the reviews used sexy ladies all over the place.

A perfect example of the gratuitous sex was the souvenir programs. EVERY Rodgers and Hart show except "Babes in Arms" had naked women on the inside front and back covers, as well as very titty line drawings on every page.

Thanks. I'm working on one now. I can only do them during my down time and I'm in waiting-for-the-contracts-to-arrive-so-I-can-see-how-I'm-going-to-be-screwed mode right now.
