"What are some FAVORITE Cds that you all listen to that most people (even theater fans) don't? For example, I LOVE "No Way To Treat a Lady," "Violet" (not sure if that counts), "Your Own Thing" and "The Fix." -- Those are just a couple amongst numerous examples..."
I adore THE FIX. The music's a little sloppy, but there are some great performances.

Posted: 6/20/05 at 11:21amFar be it from me to advocate copying CDs, but if you live in an area with good public libraries (here in LA there are maybe ten different library systems which altogether have countless OC recordings, including most of the super-rare/expensive ones).

Can anybody beat "I, Nephi"???
Yes a musical based on the Book of Mormon - suprisingly good if you can get over all the preachiness in the 'modern day' section of the play and all the f*cking singing children (the biblical part of the play was pretty good). The title song was SO ripping off "Hello, Dolly" though. http://www.ldshea.org/pages/I%20Nephi/I_Nephi.htm
Edit to add: I also now have an Australian Cast Recording (Sydney) of "Into the Woods" (not completely legal, but a great quality)!

I can think of three right off the bat that may be a little obscure - has anyone heard the music from:
Eleanor
After the Fair
and/or (this one's my favorite):
Lizzie Borden?

Two London rarities I can recommend:
BUDGIE- a lively, bawdy score, with lyrics by Don Black, and such songs as 'They're Naked and they Move' and 'If it Wasn't for the Side Effects', a duet between a wiped out nymphomaniac and barfly. Not to all tastes, but scarce as hens' teeth.
BERNADETTE- definitively the WORST musical ever in the history of all consciousness! An absolute scream. Most copies have been destroyed, but I keep a prize OLC recording, to help on bad days.

Urban - Now THAT is one I have never heard, nor do I think I want to.
I do however have the Jewish Repertory recording Kuni-Leml (which is actually readily available, but I have never known anyone else to actually own this recording) and the long out-of-print London cast recording of Saucy Jack and the Space Vixens.
OntheAisle and devonian.k - got 'em! LOL

Wow, I'm sitting on a fortune. Who knew a need to buy every musical cd would someday pay off?

I don't have Pearl Bailey's DOLLY, but I do have on CD Ethel Merman's closing night as DOLLY, 12/27/70. The complete live performance on 2 CDs (about 125 minutes). I've designed full color sticky labels for the CDs, and illustrated jewel box front panel and back insert. Happy to dub a copy for you; if interested, let me know. John in Florida
