I burst into laughter today in the middle of my English Class, while we were reading Hamlet today, because now I understand the two Hamlet jokes from Noise's-Off.

"he's been standing there like Hamlet's Father" refering to Shelsdon(sp?)

I bet that was awkward.

I remember once in English class, we did a sort of staged reading of Julius Caesar in class one day. I can't even remember who I read, but I kept breaking down in giggles. Maybe it was because, being such a theatre freak, I found it all just so odd.

With Clay Aiken in Spamalot, all of Broadway is singing a collective "There! Right! There!" -Me-

Reading Romeo and Juliet in my freshman English class was pretty odd. This girl, named Tracy, was always picked as Juliet. She went on to play lead in the junior/senior shows.

Anyway, she was awful as Juliet! I couldn't understand it.

We never read Hamlet, but we did read MacBeth. That was fun.

Wow. High school memories.

For a senior project in English class, I recorded an audio CD of Macbeth, doing all the parts myself. It was a nightmare keeping up with matching each voice to their character.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

In my sophomore year, we had to pick a scene from Julius Caesar and make it a modern adaptation.

I think mine was set in a hospital.

When I was in High School we were reading David Copperfield in class - out loud. A character was named Bates. When someone spoke of him, he was referred to as "Master Bates."

That was last time my teacher had us read out loud.
