I thought it was do this year or is it next? I was just listening to the OCR and can't wait to see how the translation turns out.

Frankly, in this economy and with the high tech special effects this show requires, I wouldn't be surprised if it was cancelled altogether.

The last press release I read (back in June last year) suggested it was scheduled for Spring 2010, so a fair way off. I wouldn't be surprised if Christopher Hampton hasn't finished his translation yet (honestly, I suspect he'll just be adapting it; Michael Kunze is an excellent translator).

I think it's still quite early days for any major announcements, with around a year until the production could potentially open. Global Broadway Productions (the producers/licensees/whatever) are I presume still behind the LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE tour that's happening later this year, which Francesca Zambello is directing - I suspect once that's up and running then we might hear more about REBECCA.

I still wish this was premiering in the West End, but I suppose I'm thankful it's getting an English production at all.

Rebecca has been pushed back with a small year, aiming to open summer 2010 in Canada and end 2010/begin 2011 on broadway!

I had also heard it was pushed to 2010 (instead of 2009)... and Zambello is pretty booked this year with the Little House tour, First Wives Club this summer, and several operas...

It is still very early to get specific information, but there's no reason to think this won't happen...it's going to be awesome!

If this show doesn't get the reception it does, I'll cry.

I'd be heartbroken as well. It would be very frustrating, seeing as how in Vienna the audiences were with the show start to finish.

I don't get why people are still hiring Zambello to direct.

UPDATE
An English reading of the show took place in London this month.

...Lisa O?Hare, Julian Ovenden, Anna Francolini, Susannah Fellows, David Burt and Jessica Martin, are among the actors who have been taking part in a workshop production of a musical version of Daphne du Maurier?s Rebecca.

The show was originally staged in Vienna, with lyrics and book by Michael Kunze.

However Christopher Hampton has co-authored an English version...

Ben Spreche, an American, is the show?s producer, with Louise Forlenza, and yesterday he told me it was his intention to put the show on Broadway.

But he thought he?d try it out here first because, well, it?s cheaper...
