Do we have any idea how long it takes for Broadway Cast Recordings to make it to CD these days. I was interested in adding this year's Tony award-winning musical, A Strange Loop, to my collection but while the recording seems to have made it as a download, I'm not seeing a release date for a CD copy. Would really like to be able to add it to the shelf.
For that matter, it appears that only 2 of the 6 nominated musicals have made it onto CD thus far, MJ and Girl from the North Country, but apparently all six have digital availability. So no idea when the Broadway versions of Paradise Square, Six and Mr Saturday Night will see CD release, as well as Strange Loop.
I seem to remember a time not so long ago when the Tony nominated shows would get a CD release pretty quickly after the awards, so it seems odd that only two are out thus far.
Oh, and can you believe copies of the Braodway cast recording of The Prom on CD are going for nearly $90 nowadays online? I managed to track a copy in a local store for far less, but was shocked at how expensive it is going for now and that show is only three years old! Makes me wonder if they aren't printing enough copies of recent shows.
