Recommendations for a cafe?

Hey guys, I've planned a trip to NYC and I a question.

I'll be coming in with a friend and she is not interested in seeing August: Osage County, (I already bought the tickets, too late to convince her) so while I am watching the show, she'll have nothing to do for about 3.5 hours except read (since she doesn't want to walk around the streets all alone.) Therefore, are there any calm, safe, and quiet cafes where she can read a book around the Music Box?

Thanks for your help!

She could sit in the Marriott Marquis on the 3rd floor. But a cafe to just sit and read in for that long??? Unless she buys a LOT of food, I don't see any of them letting her just sit and read while taking up a table that they could be using for paying customers a few times over in that 3.5 hours.
