I saw this last night. I had sixth row center orchestra seats - I had forgotten how horrible the sight lines are for ballet at City Center. I didn't see a single piece of choreography without someone's head interrupting the flow!
I love the music used for this but somehow the choreography never seemed to match the passion of the music or the story. I like Bourne's SWAN LAKE but this seemed to be a lot of bourees and difficult lifts without a lot of fluidity. (It could have been the sight lines, to some extent.) I wanted to like this production, but left feeling disappointed. Am I the only one who thought a lot of the dancing was not first rate? The principal dancers were excellent but I wasn't impressed with the ensemble work. I suppose this was bound to fail for me since so much of what I love about the movie is dialogue, and the story has certainly, of necessity, been over-simplified. I did think the "RED SHOES" ballet-with-a-ballet was fascinating and at times exhilarating. The entire evening was just not an overall success for me.
