Does anyone know if they finally made or released a recording of the Showtime movie-musical Reefer Madness with Christan Campbell, Kristen Bell and Neve Campbell? And if so, where can I get it! Love the songs and the music!
There's a recording of the L.A. cast, but some of the songs that were written for the movie are not on it.
It doesn't have "Mary Jane".
Anyway, I'm sure footlightrecords.com has it.
Oops! I meant to write "Mary Lane".
Cool the L.A Cast recording will do fine!
Thanks@!
Thanks for the info...I just looked at AMAZON and they are selling the recording for $200.00 bucks!
Hah, this is too funny! I just watched Reefer Madness this afternoon for the first time. Quite an enjoyable, campy film!
I've definitely seen the L.A. cast recording for sale, though.
Amazon is extremely overpriced, but here's the offical site for the musical itself:

I don't think the movie has a recording, though, or at least not that I've seen.

That link is NOT the soundtrack. It was never released. The LA cast is--for some reason--very expensive these days, but it wasn't before.
The show was a HUGE cult hit here in LA and I believe that is the ONLY available recording, which is why it's selling for so much.
You can also get the dvd from amazon. It's only $10.99.
Hah, I bought my copy for $9.88 [at a local music store by me].
It was one of those things where I'd been thinking of buying it and there it was!

KYGuy, I hope that you are not advocating purchasing bootlegs copies...
Someone 'ripping' the song from the DVD and selling them on their own would be considered a bootleg.
And THAT would piss off Dan....

It would Piss off Dan AND he posts on here!
I beleive the LA Cast is currently "Out of Print" and that is why it's so expensive--
There is one listed on eBay right now. It says it is a promo copy and still wrapped. The pic looks like it MIGHT be legit. If you wanna check it out:

I just emailed Dan and amm waiting for a reply.
I've never seen or heard of this CD, so I'm not so sure. I thought the ONLY CD's were the LA cast recording.
As soon as I hear back from Dan, I'll let you know.
I believe that there was a professional-style recording made, but it was never officially released. Shame, too. The movie's so wonderful. Gotta love me some Ana singing "The Stuff".
just curious, if something is out of print is it still considered illegal to burn a copy for a friend?
Yes, because it is stil copyrighted material.

That eBay demo is the promotional CD they gave out to industry professionals and is just the songs exactly as sung in the film with some dialogue cut out. It sounds little better than a DVD rip and I wouldn't buy it. It's a shame the LA Cast has gone out of print--It's fantastic as well. Hopefully the soundtrack will be release one of these days, if only on iTunes, perhaps.

"Q: WILL THERE BE A FILM SOUNDTRACK?
A: One actually exists, but we can’t legally sell it without first paying union fees to the singers. We’re looking for a record label to pick up the cost and distribute the album. We’re anxious to make the score legally available to the public, so check in periodically with this website for updates."

It's the 4th question down.
And some people selling the LA CD on eBay for obscene amounts ruined it for everyone else. That's when the price got jacked up. Unfortunate.
Here is the OFFICIAL word from Dan Studney:
"Yes, that's authentic. Not sure it's legal to sell it as it should be labeled "for promotional purposes only not for sale or resale" yada yada, but that looks like the CD promo for the movie that was in the press packet. It has some internal cuts in the songs, but it's fairly accurate. Kevin and I are working on releasing the film soundtrack ourselves -- there have been many weird issues along the way, including some bonehead losing the original recordings!"

Well that's good to hear that they are trying to get a movie cd recording out. It would so well since this show/movie has become a cult hit. Yay Dan!
That would be awesome if they got to release a soundtrack! Those songs, sung by that cast are too good not to be released.
Awesome!
I just showed the movie to my friends and they liked it. One of them was asking about the movie soundtrack because he really enjoyed the songs... and is even thinking of asking his theatre chair if they can do the musical.
