Sorry to hear that Frank McCourt has died.
I had the pleasure to meet him and his wife Ellen three years ago at a speaking engagement. His Irish wit and gift of gab were delightful.
He had a special way of showcasing humanity with his simple tales of life. (When talking about his book Teacher Man, he had us rolling on the floor with a story about a bologna sandwich.)
Go mbeannaà Dia dhuit, Frank.
Does anyone know if there was ever a plan to make a play (or dare I say) musical of Angela's Ashes? Just wondering. It's been made into a film, but I think it would make a great play.

I was in tears when I read that he'd passed away. He was a brilliant writer who managed to find the humor in everything, and I loved reading about his life.
There isn't a stage version of Angela's Ashes (the brilliant Jennifer Saunders used it as the musical her character auditioned for in the Mirrorball special--it was hysterical!), but his The Irish and How They Got That Way ran forever off-Broadway and was taped for PBS.
