I was a great admirer of Raul Julia's work in the theater and in movies. I first saw him in KING LEAR in Central Park, then in DRACULA on Broadway, and in MAN OF LA MANCHA. I wish that I had seen him as MacHeath.

He died on this date in 1994. May his soul rest in peace, and may his talent be cherished by all who saw his work.

I was blown away watching his performance as Edmund on the DVD of King Lear. Just from listening to the cast recording of Nine, I knew who the rightful winner of the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical was that year.

We lose so many of these talents too soon.

I will always remember him as Gomez Addams. He and Anjelica Huston were just perfect together. <3

He was great in everything he did - but his work in the film "Tempest" was truly amazing.

And why oh why won't Columbia put out on CD the THREE PENNY recording with Julia, Ellen Greene, Elizabeth Wilson, Blair Brown, et al? It's my favorite (and my dear friend Roy Brocksmith was the Ballad Singer, dueting with the also late and great Tony Azito).
