I agree with this. If (big IF, it is UPN) Taye's new show is a big hit, he'd be a somewhat big draw as Benny. Jai Rodriguez (Queer Eye, for those who dont know)is the best choice for Angel, IMO. Queen Latifah wouldn't ruin Joanne, and Collins isn't that hard (Jesse L. Martin?). I really don't want a star as Mark, Roger or Mimi, I hope Mr. Columbus goes the Harry Potter route and cast unknowns (or Hollywood unknowns; I wouldn't mind Broadway vets, a la Matt Caplan, Cary/Jeremy or Krystal, as I've heard nothing but good things about all four of them)

I know I am going to get a lot of flack for saying what I am about to say............but, I would love to see Christina Aguilera in the role of MiMi. Can't you just imagine "Out Tonight" coming from those pipes? I wish I could actually hear that.

I wouldnt mind a Rent concert with actual recording artists. But the movie doesnt need to be that lol

at this point i am only hoping for 3 casting choices the rest i don't have an opinion on- queen latifah as joanne, jesse l. martin as collins, and taye as collins (he has after all had a bit of a movie career)

I love how every single thread about the Rent movie turns into a casting discussion, regardless of what the original comment was.

But if I can't beat 'em, I'll join 'em.

The only casting ideas that I really care about are Queen Latifah as Joanne (I've been saying this all along), Christina Aguilera as Mimi (ditto - really, I'd kill to see her Out Tonight), and Taye or Usher as Benny.

It's not that I'm indifferent to the other parts, just that I can't think of any actor/singer who can do 'em justice.

Jondupont, does your roomie know when principal casting is supposed to be completed?

I want to see people I've never heard of, but if a name can do it, more power to them. From what I've seen, Columbus is really putting some work into this so I have to trust he'll do his best. Whether or not that's enough will be a matter of opinion. Whoever he casts, I will see with an open mind.

I would absolutely LOVE it if Mimi Mark and Roger were unknowns or Broadway vets. It would totaly balance out any stunt casting they have. I won't mind what the casting directors do to the other characters (well, almost)as long as they use unknowns for Mimi Mark and Roger. The likelyhood that this will happen is low, but I can still hope

Okay I am very confused Anthony has said he is doing the Rent film, Adam has said he is doing the Rent film, Idina has said she is doing the Rent film. Rosario Dawson cast as Mimi, so where is all this convo coming from, haven't gotten confirmation from Taye, Jesse or Wilson yet. And from what I've heard Joanne has been cast also.

I imagine he meant Revolution Studios. Not exactly Warner Bros, but relatively "major" nonetheless.

Pab, no im not, Mimi has been cast Rosario was on a on a talk show this morning talking about it. Adam confirmed he was doing the film at his last show at Joe's Pub and on channel 11 here in NYC and Idina mentioned it a few weeks ago. And Anthony's latest posts indicate he is still doing the movie. And Dreamworks has nothing to do with this production. The fact that Mimi and Roger who Variety has said have officially signed shows its not accurate.

I'm confused. I think pab was referring to when you said "so where is all this convo coming from" - as in, all this conversation about Queen Latifah as Joanne, up-and-comers as leads, celebs as supporting ppl, etc., all happened a couple of months ago before we found out the OBC was approached to reprise their roles.

Unless you guys are referring to a whole other conversation, and I'll just butt outta here.

ajayspak2, people WERE talking about other people because the last post on this thread, before you was posted today, was on September 25 and in the almost two months since then almost everything posted before has changed or been verified.

lol It's okay Ajay. Okay, what pab and I mean is all the stuff on this thread was discussed way prior to the OBC being confirmed, and then it died until you bumped it up, but it's 2 months old and very outdated.

In other words, the last post before you bumped it was on Sept 25, which was almost a month before anything was confirmed.
