Rent Review 9/24 Matinee

First let me say, I've been listening to the OBC for quite some time, and I loved these voices and these songs performed live much better than what I heard on the CD.

Excellent Moments Included -

The high note in Seasons of Love, although I don't think Frenchie was there today. It was still so phenomenal.

I'll Cover You Reprise, Destan sang it with crying in his voice yet still beautiful. Unlike Karmine's crying singing which I will get into soon.

Angels moment in contact. I know this is one of the worst moments in the show emotionally, but he sang it so well. Undeniable emotion there.

People:

Cary: Cary was amazing. His voice was spot on and his acting was awesome. The anger toward Mimi was deffinitely there, and so was the love between them. I also heard and saw the passion during OSG, and Your Eyes.

Karmine: Karmine as every1 has mentioned is awesome. She has such a great voice which she knows how to work with for amazing sound. I didnt like two things, just two things isnt bad, but I didnt like how high notes in out tonight. I thought they were a little weak, and I HATED her without you. It wasnt sung, I felt like she went for crying to much and started weezing the song.

Matt: I didn't want to believe past reviews that I've heard, but he does seem very bored. He seems very into it when he's in the middle of a song. But if he's not singing, he seems to be trying to crack others up, and when not doing that he seems to be only half awake. When he was into it though, he was great.

Merle: Merle was great. Her voice was perfect for joanne, the perfect voice for both feminine beauty and masculine tone. I loved her take on the character which was slightly different than any other joanne I've seen. She was great.

D'Monroe: He was good, but was sometimes off on notes because he often tried to do too much with his part. But he's benny so what is there to say.

Ava: I thought she was great playing the role as self-centered, and contrary to any bad rumors or reputation things I've heard about her, the girl deffinitely can sing. However, there were several times during take me or leave me when I heard her try to do to many runs or too much extra stuff on the song and it threw her off. Also she played Maureen very young, and I didnt like that choice.

Destan: I thought he was great, I would rather him have spoken with a lower voice, as he spoke his lines in a tenor voice. But his voice was spot on in his songs and his I'll Cover You Reprise was easily the best I've heard.

Justin: He was a great angel, his dancing and drumming was excellent and his voice was amazing. Great lovability, and great falsetto which is so essential for Angel.

Overall I loved the show....LOVED THE SHOW. Lol.

I second the Andy Senor vote.

I saw RENT a week ago, and Destan wasn't in. His understudy was phenominal. I agree that Matt seems kinda bored. The phone fell off the chair during Voicemail #1 and he completely broke character with Cary. They started cracking up, and Nicolette was trying really hard not to laugh.

I've seen the show 6 times now in 3 years, I think, and Cary has NEVER been better. His "One Song Glory" was amazing. I've never been more in love with a character than I was last Saturday with Roger. Everything he did was amazing. Excuse me while I go die from his amazingness.
