Posted: 8/31/04 at 5:36pmDoes anyone know if there are any plans to make a movie of 'Rent'? Seems like I remember hearing something a while back about Martin Scorcesse directing. Do you think it would work? Casting suggestions?

Posted: 8/31/04 at 5:44pmYankeefan is all wrong, no disrespect. But the last report was that it is being directed by Christopher Columbus and that Timberlake was no longer in the running. Take it for what it's worth as rumors on the RENT movie are as rampant as rumors on the new Superman movie. However Spike Lee has lost the rights to the film and will no longer be directing it, that much is certain.

Posted: 8/31/04 at 5:49pmWell he may have been joking about Beyonce. But at one time there was complete truth in the fact that Spike was directing and looking at Neil Patrick Harris for Mark and Timberlake was pursuing him to play Roger. No disrespect to the newbie

Posted: 8/31/04 at 5:49pmOh... never mind. I just did a search and I see that this topic has been discussed before. (What topic hasn't?) Please forgive me for being redundant and just forget it. As far as I'm concerned if Debbie Reynolds isn't available then it's not worth making anyway!

Posted: 8/31/04 at 6:09pmLee's not directing anymore. Miramax lost the rights and Warner Brothers now owns it. Chris Coloumbas (of Home Alone and Harry Potter fame) is set to direct. All Timberlake did was audition for Lee. No cast is set.

Posted: 9/11/04 at 1:12amFor the tenth time- original cast? Too old. Besides, wouldn't you rather have, oh I don't know, young unknowns in the roles? I think that's more in the original spirit of the show.

Enough with the OBC thing. It ain't gonna happen, and it shouldn't happen.
Unless they're filming Rent 2: The Geriatric Generation. (Mark with his IV drip, Roger with his harmonica, Mimi battling senility, oh, the drama.)
