I saw the last performance of the Altar Boyz's weeklong stay in the Magic City (aka Birmingham, AL). And they were phenom (yeah, I shortened the word).

The show started and you could feel the electricity of the audience. Even though the show took place in the beautifully lavish Alabama Theater, the show still felt inimate. Each actor had a intricatley crafted character. I thought they were all very strong and no weak links.

I thought the boards behind the band would rise up and reveal the Altar Boyz at the begining of the show a la Backstreet Boys, but they didn't. It seems like a very simple show to tour.

The stand-out of the show was Ryan J Ratliff as "Mark." Probably because he had the best lines, but still, his character work was perfect. I cried during "The Calling" (I think that's the song) when Mark slowly wanders over to Matthew because he thinks he's singing about him. It was a perfect moment. He had the audience eating out of his hands.

If this show comes anywhere near you, I'd say go see it. It's a great show. All of the guys were great and the band sounded great.

A little side note, Matthew Buckner and Jay Carcia came into my place of work - a smoothie place - to get something to drink before their Wednesday show. I thought that was so cool. I thought, "these guys don't look like they belong here..." and then I realized who it was. Very cool. Nice guys.

It's great that you loved the show! And the song where Mark thinks Matthew is singing to him is 'Something About You'. I can't wait to see the tour.

Glad you enjoyed ALTAR BOYZ! It's such a fun little show, with great music, and kick-ass choreography. I'm glad to hear that the tour is in good hands.

I noticed in the program they have for sell, that some of the set pieces or things are different. What are the differences with the show in New York? Is the set as simple as the tour set?
