"Rent" on the soundtrack

This may have been covered already (pun semi-intended), but do we know why references to Joanne and Maurren in the song Rent have been cut out on the soundtrack? Even Marc's lines referring to Maureen are gone: "Your equipment won't work? Ok, all right, I'll go..." Are we assuming this is part of restructuring the plot?

Or they just cut dialogue from the music.

There are a few obvious pauses in the music that strike me as places where it'll sort of break off and become a 'dialogue' scene.

It is probably in the movie, but when listening to a soundtrack filled with MUSIC from a MUSICAL movie based on a MUSICAL on Broadway, most people don't like hearing someone talk to them.

Well, he still goes to help Joanne, so they haven't taken that part away. I thought that it was because of something to do with film versus theatre. On stage, you can have one scene that encompasses three different locations, and it won't look weird. The loft can be center stage, Collins on the street can be stage left, and Joanne in the lot can be stage right, and you don't really think that's weird. On film, it might be too cumbersome to cut back and forth to her, or something. I suppose Mark could've just answered the phone and the "Maureen, I'm not a theatre person," could've gone, but it will still make perfect sense without those lines.
