Replacements ?

My wife & I were listening to "Boy From Oz" ( we enjoyed the show) & were wondering who could possible replace Jackman. My wife said Tommy Tune. Yes he is too old & possibly too tall. He can sing & dance & was ( & maybe still is ) as flamboyant as Peter Allen

Any thoughts on this wild idea. By the way, saw printed "twofers" for Oz on my laundry room bulletin board. 25 % off for certain performances

re: Replacements ?

It seems to me like they will just close the show once Jackman decides to leave. After all didn't they close the show for a week or so when he went on vacation - if they wont let his understudy go on, then they probably aren't looking for a replacement either.

i think you're right that they will close the show after jackman leaves but i think maybe if they can get another star to do it, it could possible stay open. unfortunately, that doesnt always work (i.e. "nine")

"Yes he is too old & possibly too tall."
old, probably. as for tall, I think Hugh is pretty tall as well.

I remember seeing somewhere a suggestion that patrick wilson could do it. as much as i love him, i'm not so sure. thoughts?

I think the only way they would replace him is if they could find someone 1) who could do it and 2) be a big a box office draw as Jackman. I think Patrick Wilson would fit 1 but not 2. It would almost have to be another actor from the movies. Who knows, after the Phantom movie comes out, maybe Patrick will be more bankable. Other than that, I can't think of anyone.

Ewan McGregor or Harry Connick, Jr.???

I read somewhere that Ewan was in a rock band in his younger days ( maybe he can handle a live audience well) -- but I am not sure that both Ewan and Harry can be as nimble dancers as Hugh proved to be. Although if you only saw Hugh dance in Oklahoma! and Kate and Leopold - you wouldn't think he can hoof it up as he does in THE BOY FROM OZ.

I think it is quite obvious given the recent announcement that the show will close while Jackman is on vacation that once he is done with the show, so is the show.

Ewan was also the male lead in Moulin Rouge. My mom and I saw him in it and said, "wow! He's talented." He qualifies. I don't know about how big of a box office draw he would be. Actually after Big Fish came out he started to go into hte mega limelight. he could work.

Patrick Wilson would do an amazing job. Is he enough of a name to keep the show running, though? To fill this role, you need a household name. Tommy Tune is a tad old, no? He has the talent to pull it off, but he may not fit the role age-wise.

Age notwithstanding, Tommy Tune's last outing off-Broadway didn't last very long, so I doubt he's considered a box office draw.

I saw Patrick Wilson in the touring company of "Carousel" years ago where he played Billy Bigelow and I must say, I was not impressed. Sarah Uriarte played Julie Jordan in that same tour and I recall liking her performance much better.

re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: Replacements ?

Patrick Wilson isn't a big enough name, outside of Broadway, to draw a crowd to this so so show and Tommy Tune is like 9 feet tall, he does sort of NEED TO LOOK LIKE Peter Allen.

Once Hugh bows out, the show will close.
