Also...
Glenn Close, not a bad idea at all. I bet too she would act the hell out of the role.

Posted: 8/21/03 at 6:15pmPatti would be a powerhouse in that role. Sadley, I don't think the survibing authors can get past their person feelings about her to give her a shot in a role that she could nail.

Posted: 8/21/03 at 11:15pmShe's also not enough of a name. Bette Midler and Glenn Close could fill Bernadette's shoes and sell tickets. And as amazing Patti is, the show just wouldn't thrive.

Posted: 8/22/03 at 11:51amI'd go with Bette Midler. To me, when you look at her, she just screams out "Mama Rose", especially since she's done the role before.

Posted: 8/22/03 at 4:03pmI think Megan Mulally would be perfect in that role.

Saw it twice with Angela Lansbury & Tyne Daly. It is a great show but they keep on reviving it. Why not revive shows that have not been done either recently or at all ?
Unless I get an offering, I will pass it up & save my money for "Wicked"

Posted: 8/23/03 at 1:19amI've done some listening to the "Sunset Blvd." recording w/ Glenn Close and I do think she could do this role...vocally. And of course there's no question whether or not she could pull it off in the acting department.
#65Well, alright then...
Posted: 8/23/03 at 3:42amThe way you know the above post is false? There's no tuba in the orchestration for Gypsy.

Posted: 8/23/03 at 9:56amYou guys must be dreaming! There's not a hope in hell that Glenn Close or Bette Midler would follow Bernadette Peters into Gypsy. Midler and Close are MAJOR stars, Peters just isn't in the same galaxy not to mention the pay cut they would have to take.

Posted: 8/23/03 at 10:03amRobin, thanks for that loverly post. What was the point in that except to make us all a bit queezy? Some things should just be left to the imagination. I wish you had left this one alone. And where did you get your first hand knowledge, anyway?

Posted: 8/23/03 at 10:05amWhat's so strange about Glenn Close doing a Broadway musical, let alone Gypsy? She's done Broadway, and if the money's right ... Also, I don't see Hollywood banging down her door that much of late.

Posted: 8/23/03 at 11:11amBP is BAD in Gypsy - so I would be happy to see her go (no offence to her fans..i love her too, just NOT in this role) and I think since the production is so dark and off-color, why not choose someone like KATHY BATES who has a name that would draw for talent and curiosity!
