I'm sick as a dog today but this just made me feel a WHOLE lot better!
"Actress Parker Posey, once named queen of the independent film by Time Magazine, has joined the cast of the upcoming Off-Broadway production of David Rabe's Hurlyburly..."

I am so bitter. Parker, Ethan and Bobby Cannavale on the same stage. Guh. What I wouldn't give.
This is a great cast of a v. good play. It skewers white male angst (and acting out) powerfully, and is far more than a take on Hollywood. Anyone else remember the original production, with William Hurt, Harvey Keitel, Signorney Weaver and especially Judith Ivey? Candice Bergen replaced Weaver, and was pretty good, in a small-ish role. But Ivey's role is the gem, the centerpiece of the play ("..I! am! a drug person.." and "Doom and gloom have moved into my house like some kind of major appliance..."). I hope that's the one Parker has.

I think Parker Posey is a really good actress. Why do you think she's never broken into the mainstream?

I think Parker Posey enjoys being "Queen of the Indies", doing quirky little independent films. The only really mainstream role she's done was as Tom Hanks' girlfriend in "You've Got Mail".
She's done a few more mainstream things like THE SWEETEST THING, LAWS OF ATTRACTION and SCREAM 3 but she does enjoy the freedom to pick quality independant films where she can shine. If she chose to do more "Hollywood" films there's no way in hell she would get the kind of parts she plays now.
She did a 2-3 episode arc on WILL AND GRACE, and played opposite Matthew Broderick on Broadway in Elaine May's play. The latter was a flop. But both of those career moves suggest mainstream aspirations (who doesn't wanna make a buck?)
Parker Posey is one of those totally unique comic talents that Hollywood just doesn't know what to do with. It's like that for funny women all over, from Joan Cusack to Imogen Coco.

Ethan I can do without, but I am Bobby C's bitch and love Parker Posey...especially in "Best in Show".
Yes, yes, BEST IN SHOW... when she's looking for the "bee," she is priceless. The scene in the pet store when she'll accept no substitute.
