Susan Browning died on April 23rd. She'd been on life support for some time.
I was fortunate to see her hin the original COMPANY, THIEVES, SHELTER and several Shakespearean productions in Central Park.

Very sad. She must have been fairly young.

She was 65.
She will be missed. I was just thinking about her the other day. Nobody did "Barcelona" like Ms. Browning.
oh tahst horribly sad. She was a wonderful talent. She is so adorable on the Company Cast Album Documentary, When she is asked about recording the songs..."...it is the end all and the be all of this song... and...that can drive a person crazy!"

For those of us to have been so blessed to have seen the original cast of Company, this loss is almost personal.
Susan Browning delivered one of a half dozen classic comedy performances that were in that show and no one got the gist of her character as well as she. Dumb but smart and ultimately indescribable.
Equally unsurpassed were Stritch, Beth Howland, Pamela Myers, Charles Kimbrough and Barbara Barrie.
As I've mentioned recently, i'm currently in "Company," and the role of April fascinates me. This show on the whole, is impressing me more and more each day.
I saw COMPANY closer to the end of its run, and she was one of the few originals left. She still gave a remarkably fresh performance. Years later -- the late 80s -- I shared a cab from LaGuardia with her, and she was charming, if a bit world-weary. The last time I saw her was in BIG RIVER. It's sad that she didn't have her Barbara Cook opportunity, since she was a glorious singer, her voice always infused with sweetness.
Makes me want to watch "Sister Act" to find her in the choir scenes.
Her and Susan Johnson.

Her April was the only take on the role I could tolerate, I typically don't like that character but she seemed so sweet on the documentary and that whole cast is just priceless. It is such sad news, as of only tuesday I was saying how the only cast member who had died was one of the older guys which is surprising for a show in 1970, having a nearly whole surviving cast. Little did I know I was wrong. At least we can all remember her as a very good performer and still watch/listen to her!
Rest in Peace.
