Review - Frank Wildhorn's "For The Glory" (aka The Civil War) in Gettysburg#0

I saw the show this past Thursday and Friday (June 15 & 16) at the Majestic Theater in Gettysburg, PA. I’ve seen the pre-Broadway production, the Broadway production and the tour. This production is unlike those – it’s closer to the Houston Alley Theater production – very simplified and not in period costume. Well, let me rephrase that, some are in costume, some are not which I found to be odd. That was really my only complaint. Otherwise, to hear that music live again was a thrill – especially since Michael Lanning and Keith Byron Kirk have reprised their roles. Also, Bart Shatto from the OBC is in it as Bill (Gilles Chaisson’s role on B’way) and Rob Even has taken the role of the Confederate Captain and he was wonderful.

Talked to Michael Lanning a little after the show as well as Frank Wildhorn during intermission. Both are very excited about this production (as they should be – seeing it in Gettysburg is a thrill). It plays there Wednesdays at 2pm & 8pm, Thursdays at 2pm & 8pm, Fridays at 8pm, Saturdays at 2pm & 8pm and Sundays at 2pm now through Sept. 3. (FYI- Rob Evan leaves in 2 weeks and Michael Lanning is leaving mid- August to get married).

I have heard the demo recording for this new production and it blew me away as compared to the original.

Wonderful. Wish I could get over to see it.

I must say though that Keith Byron Kirk is a STAND OUT in this production - he walks on stage and you can't help but be completely taken by him. Wonderful.

That's great! I can't wait to see it now.

Do you know if there is a stage door or where it is? Would love to meet both Michael and Keith.

Sure - when you exit the theater, go to your left and you'll see an alley to your left. Go down that alley and then you'll see a ramp/stairs to your left (before the parking garage), go down that ramp (or stairs) and the theater door is on the left.

Have fun! I'm jealous you get to see it! : )

Who is replacing Evan and Lanning?

Who is playing the female roles?

Evan is being replaced by a guy that Michael Lanning is good friends with and he said he is amazing. Michael did not say who is replacing him - he leaves about 2 weeks out from closing.

When exactly is Rob Evan leaving? And when is Michael Lanning leaving? I have tickets for June 30th and really want to see both of them.

I've got a friend doing this production and hope to check it out in August. He's had very good things to say.

I saw it Friday and Saturday (opening night) evenings and it's everything robyn says it is. Tour the battlefields first and it will even have more meaning for you. Gettysburg is a fantastic historical area and for that reason alone everyone that can should visit...For The Glory is the icing on the cake!! I heard the replacements are A1...this from the guys they will be replacing and that's quite a compliment. Go to Gettysburg this summer. You won't be sorry.

Rob Evan is leaving the 6th? That sucks, I'm seeing it the 9th. Is Keith Byron Kirk still going to be there?

If Percy Blakeney were in Les Mis....

Percy: Sink me! If it isn't Javvurt!
Javert: Zsah-vair, it's pronounced Zsah-vair.
Pecry: But it's spelled J-A-V-E-R-T Javvurt.
Javert: Repeat after me Zsah...Zsah....
Percy: Oh! Zsa-Zsa! Like the Gabor sister! Well I personally have always prefered Eva.
Javert: (Looks for gun)

I also have a friend in the production and he's said nothing but positive things. I've heard from a number of audience members that the show is simply astonishing. re: Review - Frank Wildhorn's 'For The Glory' (aka The Civil War) in Gettys

As far as I know, Keith Byron Kirk is in the entire run. And he is AMAZING.

And Poppy - I COMPLETELY agree. Gettysburg is a beautiful town with alot of history. I HIGHLY recommend touring the battlefields before seeing the show. Make sure to stop at the Visitors Center / Museum as well. And a MUST do is to go to Little Round Top.

Erin Mosher is Sarah. She is making her debut at the Majestic Theater. She is magnificent. Great voice...ideal Sarah.
The female slaves, only two of which are listed in the program, are Bryonha Marie and Tracee Perrin. I can't say enough about any of the performers. They are all excellent. Very, very talented people. I'm sure Robyn will agree.

I do agree. Erin's voice is very pretty although she lacks an emotional connection to the songs. The lead female slave has an AMAZING voice.
