Review LEGALLY BLONDE at the 5th Ave

Great review.

I actually thought the show was great. It's campy and fun, but exactly what I expected. No it's not one of the best musicals I've ever seen, but I had a lot of fun, and isn't that what it's all about? I'm really happy I took my girlfriend to the show. We both really enjoyed ourselves.

Personally I like Gulsvig as Elle, but I would have preferred to see Laura Bell Bundy or Annaleigh Ashford in the role.

Looking forward to Chicago this weekend!

I saw Rhiannon Hansen's Elle and am glad I did. While her singing and dancing were average, her personality was infectious. My biggest complaint is that the tour sets are severely scaled down vs. Broadway. Luckily I have the MTV performance saved to enjoy that far superior staging. I like Natalie Joy Johnson's Paulette and DB Sweeney's Emmett much more than Orfeh and Borlem respectively, on Broadway.

Also, the 5th needs to fix their sound system.

not to mention the 5th couldn't use the catwalk/scaffold in the "So much better" number that they are able to use on their other tour stops, which made the act 1 closer fall flat for me. Aside from Broadway, I also saw this tour in LA back in August and it seemed so much more full of life and exciting than it felt here.

Having seen the MTV version a couple of times, I agree that I missed the scaffolding/larger sets used for the beginning and end of Act 1. However, other than those two numbers, most sets/staging looked like it matched PRETTY close.

I thought Emmit and Paulette were 100% better and more lovable in Seattle than Broadway.

I forgot Rhiannon Hansen was Elle's understudy. She was pretty good as Margot (albeit not as good as Ashford), and I can imagine (since she was in that MTV reality show) she is a pretty decent Elle. To me Gulsvig doesn't look OR feel the part at all, it seems like a mismatch.

As for the 5th's soundsystem - I felt that the show I saw had better acoustics than the Saturday night showing of Chicago. I couldn't pick up on most of the lyrics in "All That Jazz."
