I saw the final performance of "The Last 5 Years" in Raleigh, NC today, starring Kate Shindle and Nicholas Rodriquez.
I met Kate Shindle afterwards and popped out my BroadwayWorld.com Standing Ovations concert DVD. Her eyes opened wide - she was shocked!
She signed the cover and asked if it was a CD or DVD - she didn't know what it was. Told her to go to BroadwayBeat.com and order a copy.
She'll be doing a Frank Wildhorn concert at Joe's Pub soon. I think she said November.
By the way - Rob - she said you were an incredibly nice person.
The Set: I liked the stage, ramp, and clocks. Didn't neseccarily like the "traffic lights" that the clocks were one. Good use of lighting on them, though.
The Orchestra: First time I have to comment on the orchestra. There wasn't a pit - they were off to the side. But I found myself glancing over there sometimes. The violinist was REALLY into it. She laughed heartedly at something Kate did on stage.
The Show: I was semi-familar with the music, LOVE the score. My first live Jason Robert Brown show. Loved the concept, and its a perfect length - 80 minuts, no intermission.
Nicholas and Kate were amazing. Great voices - a very very nice chemistry. Kate was spectacular - blew me away. What a voice!
I asked what upcoming projects she had planned - she's taking time off. She's doing a few recordings and the Wildhorn concert.
Didn't get a chance to speak with Nicholas (who stood right next to me speaking to someone else as I spoke with Kate), wish I could have had him sign the program. Ah well.
Such a great show in such a small theatre - a little over 100 seats. Packed. The producer before the show said this was a record breaking turnout.

Hey CapnHook! It was great to meet you before the show. I'm glad you really liked the show--it was well worth seeing twice, in my opinion. :)
I agree--Kate Shindle is terrific. If she does another show in NC, I'll be there. Cool that you got to meet her!
The Kennedy is a very pretty theatre. It's size is perfect for an "intimate" show like L5Y.

Hehe. I'm jealous you met Kate, so we're even. Actually, what was really neat: the first time I went to see the show, it was last Sunday, before the Tonys, and they had a special "name your price" offer. I got two tickets for $20. It was such a steal for a really good show!

Hahaha - well then we're not even, because you saw it twice and paid $20 for one set and $30 for the second. Four tickets for $50 - that's unheard of! LOL Half of what I paid for a ticket to see 'Hairspray' in Charlotte.
Still, the show was worth every penny I paid.
Immediately afterwards my friend & I went to Barnes & Noble to purchase the CD.

I wanted to see Hairspray in Charlotte, but then found out it was coming to Raleigh eventually. I'm happy to hear you got the L5Y cast recording! It's the most.addictive.thing.ever.
I love it, as you could probably tell from my sig quote!

Yay! I'm really glad you liked the show. The next shows are going to be just as GREAT...so come out. The next show- if you wear/bring something Elvis-related you can get single tix for $20.
Jessica Boevers and Matt Bogart are doing Cat on a Hot Tin Roof with my Pauline Cobrda as "Big Momma"...
Lauren & Alan's concert should be a great season ender.
Ah! Don't you just love new theatre companies? (I still love NCT too!)

Love NCT and Hot Summer Nights! Want to see Proof, Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, and Kennedy & Campbell's concert.
I'm running out of money. Fast. Sucks to be a poor college student. :-P
May I suggest a student price of $20 (with photo ID)? Every little bit helps.

Glad to hear all the talk about Hot Summer Nights at the Kennedy. Be sure to join us for the rest of the season. Matthew is right, there is still a lot more to look forward to this summer. Next up: "Graceland/Asleep on the Wind" by Ellen Byron. Here's the piece BWW did on it Saturday:

Also, eventhough the season started, if you are still interested in season tickets, you can see the remainder of the season for $115 ($22.50/show), including Lauren Kennedy and Alan Campbell in concert to end a great season!
Regarding the student price...we have one! Don't miss out on that if you are a student!
Hope to see you all there!

Really? There is a student price? I probably overlooked it since I did the Buy $35, Get $15 deal.
Can't make it to Graceland, but I am gonna try hard to find money for tix to see Proof, Tin Roof, and especially Kennedy & Campbell in Concert.
Hot Summer Nights is an EXCELLENT idea! I'm home from college and can see shows all summer long! It's a nice intimate theatre.
Can't wait for next season!

Posted: 6/13/05 at 11:39amI had been so excited to hear about Hot Summer Nights. I loved the L5Y cd and doubted I would ever get to see it. I went to the second performance that first week and Kate and Nicholas were great! (I'm jealous of all of you who saw it twice!) I already have my tickets for Proof and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. It's such a great theater -- I'm thrilled it's getting used.
