Review: Hairspray (2/26/08)

Hello Everyone! I'm new to the board, my name is tommy and I thought it would be a good idea to start on these boards by reviewing the show I saw tonight: Hairspray!!

Well, first let me say, I have never seen hairspray. This is my first time. I started listening to the OBC about 2 years ago and have been in love with it ever since. I saw the movie and also loved it, but after seeing the show, I'm like..what movie? The show was amazing.

The cast was fantastic. I had two understudies (seaweed and maybelle). They were both great esp. maybelle (the names escape me at the moment), but maybelle was fantastic. I loved her. I abosuletly loved shannon, she was so good as tracy. George was a great edna, but you could see he got very winded during his performances, but oh well, ya gotta give the man some credit. But overall, everyone seemed pretty on tonight.

I also want to say that I loved the sets and costumes. Hairspray was fantastic.

I am on my spring break from college, so I will be seeing a matinee of Young Frankenstien tomorrow, and A chorus line on thursday night, so I will be reviewing those too. All right, well thanks guys!

the only person that i'd go back to see Hairspray for, besides Shannon, is Mary Birdsong. How was she as Velma?

Mary was great as Velma. I really thought she shined on stage. I was a little disappointed with Amber, she was good, but her mother definately outshined her.
