Did you hack my iTunes account (just kidding)? We seem to be listening to the same recordings this week.

I *DO* know the original film pretty well; it's one of my favorite films of the 1980s (even though it marked the advent of Christian Slater talking like Jack Nicholson in everything Slater does).

As far as I can recall, the score to the musical is faithful to the spirit of the film, while adding layers of emotional depth to what was always a "serious" satire. Frankly, I was surprised just how much I liked the musical!

I'm in love with this score. Laurence O'keefe has such a unique style. Not just musically, but also the tone of his songs. I loved Bat Boy, but was fairly unimpressed with Legally Blonde.

This score seem to take the best elements of both of those and ends up being his most accomplished work yet, imo.

As I recall there are some changes to the beginning of the show (Wasn't Veronica always a friend of the Heathers? And I think they combined the characters of Martha and the fat girl who was pranked by Ram) but the rest seems pretty faithful.

Credit to the lyrics for really capturing the darkness and angst of the film while fleshing out the characters.

Dead Girl Walking, Candy Store, Our Love Is God, and Seventeen are on repeat right now.

When I heard the score originally it was a poor recording and I was pretty "meh" towards the whole thing. But this recording sparkles and has given me a whole new appreciation for the show.
