I couldn't disagree more. Don't be dissuaded by this review. Nerds:// was hilarious! The 2 hours flew by - everyone in the theatre was too busy laughing at the ridiculous yet clever and wildly entertaining musical numbers, performed by some actors so talented you'll wonder what they're doing in an off-off broadway production! If you are lucky enough to get your hands on tickets to this show, go! and have a great time!

Yeah, Steph honey, a little wide-eyed.. the show doesn't need you to drink the koolaid to do well. On the otherhand, Klute, while I loves me my theater queen who lives for Bernadette to sing Rose's Turn, he shouldn't be writing reviews, albeit unpaid ones, that betray his utterly missing the point of broad comedy. Steve Urkle was a boil on the ass of the 90s, and that review smacks of Nerds:// hitting a little too close to home. I am hopeful every year (all two of them) that good stuff will come out of NYMF (I luved LOVED Trailer Park last year.. haven't seen its new incarnanation but am going next week) and am protective of fledgling stuff's getting fostered if it has potential and can go on to be awesome. I did not feel that way about Plane Crazy - Yawn. That is the tragic result of too much nodding and not enough penetrating, quizzical stares in the production meetings... but Nerds is good with a view to be fantastic. It's what people who appreciate the humor of Dumb and Dumber - brilliant - don't even argue - will flock to see, especially if they do keep that cast. There Steph has a point. Sure it needs work - it's a showcase. But I and the audience bought whatever it was selling and wanted more. Weirdly funny and touching at the same time. So we'll see.
I saw nerds in what i believe was its first incarnation two years ago at the NYU experimental theatre wing and loved it. However, what I loved most about the show was the choice to have Bill Gates played by a girl. The girl who played it (i dont know her name, she was wonderful) played gates perfectly as a whiny dweeb in a sort of "it's pat" vein and it worked wonderfully. i guess i had figured that this was always the writers intentions. but the current cast has a male playing gates. i havent seen the show and can't since im currently living in london, but does anyone who has seen it think that a female playing gates would improve/lessen the show in any way? i wish they had cast the same girl i saw!
FINE! I had to sign up for this thing finally after lurking around all this time.. I gotta go off on the best musical theater experience I've had IN A WHILE (not counting the spat at the breakfast table this morning.) TB33: Don't worry about coming back from London before Saturday because this will be enjoying a long run somewhere prominent in months to come.. Disclaimer: I LOVE THIS SHOW! My boyfriend will glare at me for saying that because after we saw it, he regressed 10 years to the deep closet of his metaphorical highschool locker, but I couldn't help but look around at the audience and wink. Substitute MUSICAL THEATER for COMPUTERS, people. And thank gawd there's not a girl playing Gates - no offense to the ladies, who ROCK in this show. But the actor they have playing Gates is creamy delicious and just clumsy enough with his manhood to really sell the frustration and subsequent unbridled ambition. Jobs is great, too, I have to add. I suspect he's straight, but I got a little of his man-sweat on me, sitting in the front row. Yum. And the boy can wail higher than most girls I know. Who cares if I'm a sucker for the obv. hearthrob. But I think my favorite is the phat guy - yeah, you know who you are. The clown bit nearly killed me, I coulda sued him. He threw the whole show into HD - such a talent. And no one will write about him, but he's probably why they came away thinking he show was a so good: like MSG, he adds the secret flava.
